The Italian-American car company Fiat Chrysler (FCA) announced Sunday that it will help manufacture 1 million face masks to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
In a press release, the North American Fiat Chrysler announced that in its factories, “Production capacity is being installed this week and the company will start manufacturing face masks in the coming weeks with initial distribution across the United States, Canada and Mexico.”
The company aims to make about 1 million face masks a month.

The masks will be donated to police, departments, EMTs, firefighters and other first responders working in hospitals and health care clinics. The company will be working with federal, state and local governments to ensure the masks will be donated to the specific organizations.
“Protecting our first responders and health care workers has never been more important,” said Mike Manley, the CEO of FCA. “We’ve marshalled the resources of the FCA Group to focus immediately on installing production capacity for making masks and supporting those most in need on the front line of this pandemic.”
