Tribal leaders for the Navajo Nation said Sunday their health care and testing facilities are increasing testing and vaccinations as the omicron coronavirus variant continues to spread across the country.

“The health experts expect the surge in infections to continue through January before we see a decline in cases,” Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said in a statement. “We must remain diligent, keep our guard up at all times especially in public, and do more to encourage our loved ones to get fully vaccinated and a booster shot.”

“We are in this together, so please take precautions such as wearing two masks in public, to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and lessen the burden on our health care workers,” he added.
