Innovation Runway: The Cutting Edge of Aviation

Aviation serves as a vital link in our country’s transportation infrastructure. Airplanes and airports connect and bind our economy, our communities and our people. According to a 2017 FAA report, expenditure related to civil aviation accounts for roughly 5% of annual US GDP.
As technological advancements continue to surface, the bustling US aviation industry is poised to undergo significant change. This change is likely to be met by a number of challenges such as an increased need for airport infrastructure funding and growing concerns related to maintaining traveller safety.

How is the aviation industry continuing to develop and change – and what do these developments have in store for both the industry and travelers? How are aviation companies working to foster innovation and incorporate emerging technologies into their day-to-day operations? Which innovations hold the greatest promise for revolutionary change? What policies should leaders in the administration and Congress prioritize as they work to balance the regulation of emerging aviation technologies with privacy concerns?

The Hill convened administration officials, members of Congress, industry leaders and experts, for a series of conversations on the changing landscape of American aviation and what it means for consumers and the country as a whole.
