Aspirations: Arab Youth and the Modern Dream

The Middle East, home to roughly 400 million people, has traditionally been viewed in the eyes of Americans as a global energy power -- evident by its vast oil and natural gas reserves -- but also as a region plagued by near-constant conflict. But as the traditional narrative continues to dominate the headlines, many are failing to amplify the voices of Arab youth, a population of 240 million people under the age of 30, who are frustrated with their current socio-economic conditions.

What are the changes that Arab youth want to see in the region? What role has the influence of education, arts, economic opportunity and innovation played? What impact does this cohort have on the global economy and why should Americans care about the ambitions and aspirations of Arab youth?

The Hill will convened key congressional leaders, members of the Arab youth community, advocacy groups and youth policy experts for conversations on what this group wants from their leaders and why Americans should care.
