Tom Arnold says liberal elites are partly responsible for rise of Trump

Actor Tom Arnold said Tuesday that wealthy, liberal elites are tied to the rise of President TrumpDonald John TrumpMark Kelly clinches Democratic Senate nod in Arizona Trump camp considering White House South Lawn for convention speech: reports Longtime Rep. "Because of Trump's world, there [are] so many Hollywood people involved in his world that are making money with him, that people are getting uncomfortable with it," Arnold, who has been an outspoken Trump critic, told Hill.TV's Alison Spann.

"You'd be surprised how many big, powerful liberal people are complicit with all of this stuff. It’s not just conservatives…the liberal people are worse because they’re making all of this money," he continued.

Arnold used Hollywood talent agent Ari Emanuel, who used to represent Trump, as an example of a liberal figure with ties to the administration.

The Daily Beast reported last month that Emanuel called President Trump's adviser and son-in-law to vent about the Saudi regime amid the killing of U.S.-based Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and how the issue would impact his business.

“They want to make money. That’s what they want to do," Arnold said.

Various members of the entertainment industry have enjoyed contentious relationships with Trump, who in turn has accused Hollywood of being out of touch with voters.

Trump has been tied to the entertainment industry for decades, appearing in movies and starring in "The Apprentice" reality series.

Arnold's comments come as voters across the country flock to the polls on Election Day.

The election is widely expected to be a referendum on Trump's first two years in office.

Arnold's interview was a part of Hill.TV's election special Pollywood, which covers the intersection of politics and pop culture.
