GOP strategist: Republicans should consider voting for some Democrats
GOP strategist Rick Wilson says Republicans might want to consider voting for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections.
"I think conservatives have to make a case-by-base choice - there are actually some Democrats candidates out there who functionally now are to the right on economics of their Republican counterpart, it's astounding," Wilson told Hill.TV co-host Krystal Ball.
Wilson, one of President Trump's fiercest Republican critics, thinks that many Democratic candidates are doing a better job of representing their communities and focusing on local issues.
"There are certainly people out there on the Democratic side who are not running as 'Bernie Bros' or as ponytail Che Guevara and they are working pretty hard to represent their states and districts," Wilson said.
But the conservative strategist, who is promoting a new book said Republican candidates running on pro-Trump platforms don't really have that option and lamented the GOP's "political monoculture."
"A Republican in Alabama has to run the exact way as a Republican in Virginia or Vermont or Montana or California - they all have to be Donald Trump," Wilson said.
During a recent interview with MSNBC, the GOP strategist forced the network to go into a 7-second delay after he went on an expletive-filled rant about the president.
He has also written a scathing new book called, "Everything Trump Touches Dies: A Republican Strategist Gets Real About the Worst President Ever," where he argues that Trump and his supporters are "destroying the conservative movement."
