Men are increasingly turning to Planned Parenthood for health services, according to a spokeswoman for the nonprofit’s political action committee.
“One of our largest growing patient demographics is actually men — they’re 12 percent of the population that we serve,” Alencia Johnson, of Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF), told Hill.TV correspondent Jamal Simmons.
Johnson said the nonprofit provides a wide-range of services for men. This includes everything from STI tests for sexually transmitted infections to condoms and vasectomies in some states.
This is part of a growing trend, according to the group.
In the last 10 years, Planned Parenthood said it has doubled the number of men that utilizes its services, and the organization saw a 76 percent increase in male patients across the U.S. from 2004 to 2014.
Johnson is the the director of public engagement at PPAF, which she said is not to be confused with the Planned Parenthood centers many people may know in their own communities.
“Planned Parenthood Action Fund is our advocacy arm where we’re able to throw down and protect access for women’s reproductive health care and access to safe legal abortion,” she told Hill.TV.
The nonprofit, nonpartisan group backed by 12 million activists, donors and other supporters.
