Prominent pollster Mark Penn said Thursday that the trajectory of President Trump’s approval rating is moving in a different direction than approval ratings for past presidents.
“For almost all presidents, and for Obama, they start out after inauguration really high, and Trump didn’t do that because the country never came together,” Penn, who is the chairman of the Harris Poll, told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha on “What America’s Thinking.”
“Then Obama sunk straight down until the midterms but that’s not what’s happening to Trump. Trump is, in fact, ticking up – going up – into the midterms,” he continued.
A Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released last month found that Trump’s approval rating ticked up to 47 percent from 45 percent in May.
Trump is currently at 41 percent approval in Gallup’s presidential tracker. Around the same point in his presidency, Obama stood at 46 percent in the poll, a 20-point-plus drop from when he entered office.
