Democratic pollster Mark Mellman said in an interview that aired Thursday on “What America’s Thinking” that any other president would have a higher approval rating than President Trump currently has due to the growing economy.
“There’s no question that if Donald Trump were not Donald Trump, he would be doing a lot better in approval rating,” Mellman, CEO of the Mellman Group, told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha.
“Republicans would be doing a lot better in these congressional races because of the state of the economy,” he continued.
Mellman’s comments come nearly a week after Trump celebrated unemployment hitting a 49-year-low under his administration.

The unemployment rate fell to 3.7 percent, a 49-year low, while the economy added 134,000 jobs in September.
However, Trump’s approval rating still sits between 40 and 50 percent, and he has a high disapproval rating.
The Real Clear Politics Polling Average on Thursday had Trump’s approval rating at 43.2 percent, while his disapproval rating is at 52.9 percent.
