Pollster Lee Miringoff on Friday said that issues impacting Silicon Valley have introduced a “new language” to Americans that they do not yet understand.
“This is all a very new language to the general population,” Miringoff, director of the Marist poll, told Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons on “What America’s Thinking.”
“The whole notion of cybersecurity is becoming more familiar, but we don’t have a clue as a population who any of this is occurring other than the result is something we don’t like,” he continued.
Tech giants in Silicon Valley have been in the news over the past two years amid allegations of bias against conservatives, issues with hackers and data breaches, and Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Tech leaders have appeared before lawmakers multiple times to be grilled on various issues, but Americans appear to remain concerned about how much the government will do to regulate the tech world.
A Survey Monkey poll conducted for “Axios on HBO” last month found that 55 percent of respondents believe the federal government will not do enough to regulate big technology firms.
The poll marks a 15 percent increase in the same thinking from one year ago.
