The poll found that 35 percent of respondents said it was "very likely" Mueller would uncover crimes Trump committed personally, while 25 percent said it was "somewhat likely."

Thirty-nine percent of respondents said it was unlikely that Mueller would find crimes committed by the president, with 22 percent saying the scenario was "not too likely," and 17 percent saying it was "not likely at all."

Republican pollster Conor Maguire said in an interview with "What America's Thinking" on Monday that the news media's coverage of the probe has pushed many into believing Trump could have committed a crime.

"This is about the court of public opinion. It seems that right now with the amount of negative news about the president run through so many news organizations, this is just picking up more people," Maguire, a senior client strategist with WPA Intelligence, told Hill.TV's Joe Concha.

Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the probe, referring to it as a politically motivated "witchhunt."

The poll comes as Mueller's probe was about to hit a major milestone in the sentencing of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

However, at the last minute Flynn decided on Tuesday to postpone his sentencing for lying to the FBI about his contacts with the Russian ambassador until his cooperation with Mueller is fully complete.

The American Barometer is a daily survey conducted by the HarrisX polling company on behalf of Hill.TV.

The latest survey was conducted on Dec. 15-16 among 1,000 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
