Political analyst says Trump's base would 'go to war' for him if impeached

Political analyst Bill Schneider said in an interview that aired Tuesday on "What America's Thinking" that President TrumpDonald John TrumpTrump says his advice to impeachment defense team is 'just be honest' Trump expands tariffs on steel and aluminum imports CNN's Axelrod says impeachment didn't come up until 80 minutes into focus group MORE's base would "go to war" for him if he was ever impeached. 

"If you want to see the Trump base solidify and go to war, talk about impeachment," Schneider told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking." 

"That will get them solidly behind Donald Trump, just as it happened with Democrats in 1998 when [former President] Clinton was impeached," he continued. 

"That will happen to Trump if they impeach him," Schneider said, referring to Trump's Republican base. "It will rally his base." 

Schneider's comments come as some progressive Democratic members of the House have floated the idea of impeachment.

 "I do think that we want to be unified and bring people together. Impeachment is a very divisive approach to take and we shouldn’t take it ... without the facts," Pelosi told MSNBC last week.
