GOP pollster says federal government has failed to address Americans' daily problems

Republican pollster Ed Goeas on Wednesday told Hill.TV's "What America's Thinking" that the federal government has not succeeded in solving everyday problems faced by the American people.

"Clearly, the American public — the frustration they're having that is often turned into anger is being driven by the fact that the problems that affect them on a daily basis are not being solved," Goeas, the president and CEO of the Tarrance Group, told host Jamal Simmons. "Everyone is talking way up here, as opposed to what really matters."

A Gallup poll released on Monday found that 35 percent of respondents said government is the biggest problem facing the U.S., which is a view that has gained traction since 2001.

"This has been going on for a good 20 years. We are not solving people's problems," Goeas said.

"In fact, very often, the solutions we come up with become the new focus of the problem, as opposed to the root problem, and I think that is the frustration with the American public," he said.
