Progressive strategist urges Dems to be optimistic amid Trump administration

Progressive strategist Ruy Teixeira urged progressives and Democrats to be positive in the face of the Trump administration in an interview that aired Thursday on Hill.TV's "What America's Thinking."

"I felt like when I talked to my comrades on the left, it's like, 'Oh god, the climate's going to kill us all. The Republicans, they've gerrymandered everything, voter suppression, we'll never be able to overcome these obstacles,'" Teixeira told host Jamal Simmons on Wednesday.

"I say, 'No, no, no, that's not right,'" he continued. "Look at it in a broader perspective. Have the courage of your convictions."

"These approaches will not last. They will not prove successful in the long-run. You got to have a little faith in people, you've got to have a little faith in your ideas, and don't be so pessimistic. We're not all going to die tomorrow," he said.

Teixeira was discussing his book, "The Optimistic Leftist," which encourages progressives to be optimistic about the future of 21st century America despite President TrumpDonald John TrumpImpeachment?
