"A small handful, a very small handful," Bowman, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, told host Jamal Simmons on "What America's Thinking." "Not because of a pardon, I think, much more because of something that came up that was related to the Russia investigation or obstruction of justice."

Pollster Emily Ekins said that there were some developments that would make Republicans willing to cross Trump in terms of impeachment, but it would be very few members of the party.

"There are some lines that Trump could cross that I think would cause a significant contingency of Republican lawmakers and staff on Capitol Hill to take a firm stand, but not all of them," Ekins, polling director at the Cato Institute, told Simmons in the same interview.

Trump enjoys a strong approval rate within his own party, with 90 percent approving of his job as president, according to a Gallup poll released earlier this month.

A low number of Republicans are in favor of impeachment, with only 6 percent saying they supported the move, according to a recent USA Today poll.
