"The notion that he would attack a Gold Star family ... the fact that he doesn't appear to have basic knowledge around critical issues in Europe, in the Middle East, in Asia, means that he's woefully unprepared to do this job." Ouch. Key moments:

AP's Erica Werner
Obama: "Yes I think the Republican nominee is unfit to serve as president. I said so last week and he keeps on proving it."

CNN's Jeff Zeleny
Obama says GOP criticism of Trump "rings hollow" if Republicans who disagree on Khan continue to support him.

Los Angeles Times's Mike Memoli
Obama: I felt I was right and McCain, Romney were wrong on certain policy issues. "But I never thought that they couldn't do the job."

It's Tuesday, and with the conventions over and Congress out for the next month, we're in total happy hour/leave work early/go to the beach/organize your life-mode -- we just may need to give Donald Trump that memo. I'm Cate Martel with a quick recap of what you missed this morning and what's on tap for the rest of the day. Send comments, story ideas and upcoming events to and on Facebook.

NEW THIS A.M. -- THE TIDES ARE TURNING: In an op-ed for The Syracuse Post Standard, Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) on Tuesday became the first Republican in Congress (!) to say he will be voting for Democrat Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonThe Memo: Polls flash warning signs for Trump Polls suggest Sanders may be underestimated 10 declassified Russia collusion revelations that could rock Washington this fall MORE for president, harshly criticizing his own party's nominee, Donald Trump. "I think Trump is a national embarrassment. Is he really the guy you want to have the nuclear codes?" Damn. Full op-ed

BUT KEEP THIS IN MIND: Hanna is retiring from Congress, so he doesn't have as much at stake.

WHAT THE WHAT? -- I CAN'T:  A military veteran presented Donald Trump with his Purple Heart ahead of his Tuesday rally in Virginia. "Man, that's big stuff," Trump said. "I always wanted to get the Purple Heart -- this was much easier." Keep this in mind: A Purple Heart is given to someone who is wounded or killed while serving.

CBS's Sopan Deb
A little kid is yelling "Take the bitch down!" when Trump mentions Hillary Clinton. A little kid. No more than 10, I would say.

The LA Times's Noah Bierman
"Actually I was only kidding. You can get the baby out
of here" Trump gets laughs 5 minutes after telling mom the crying is ok

YOU, TOO, CAN BE PRESIDENT IN JUST 5 EASY STEPS!: Via The Hill's Amie Parnes, momentum has been on Hillary Clinton's side since Philadelphia. Here's the five-step playbook on how to keep it from shifting back to Donald Trump:

  1. Cast Trump as unfit to lead
  2. Prepare for the debates (and manage expectations)
  3. Lock down Ohio
  4. Win over moderate Republicans
  5. Beware the bedwetters

YOU GUYS CAN'T BE TRUSTED WITH AN EMOJI LIKE THAT: Apple is trading a pistol emoji for a green squirt gun in the latest version of its iPhone and iPad operating system, according to a new report. Other new emoji additions: women performing stereotypically male professions including construction, detective work and policing; female athletes; a pride flag; and family options for single parents.

INTERESTING TIDBIT -- THAT NEWSY MOMENT WASN'T PLANNED: Khizr Khan, the father of an American Muslim soldier killed in Iraq, said he didn't plan to pull out his pocket Constitution during his speech last week at the Democratic National Convention. It was just his dog-eared copy that has been marked up from reading it. "I didn't realize until in the cab in the convention I had it in my pocket," he added.

I'M SEEING A POST-WHITE HOUSE CAREER POPPING UP FOR YOU, JOEY B: Vice President Biden on Monday officiated a wedding for a same-sex couple, marrying two White House staffers at his residence in Washington. How: Biden obtained a temporary certificate from the District of Columbia so he could legally conduct the ceremony. So you're saying he didn't become an officiant online? :( Photos:

MERRIMENT, DEATH TRAP -- SAME THING: A 100-meter long glass skywalk has opened in China -- stretching around a cliff on Tiamen Mountain. The photos are terrifying:

...And to change popular opinion, here's proof that humans aren't the only species to binge-watch Netflix on a laptop.
