The New York Time corrected two of its stories on Monday that said Ben Carson had lived in public housing as a child.
According to the Washington Examiner, the story titled “Ben Carson Lived in Public Housing, but Critics Worry Over How He Will Lead It” previously said, "He has no expertise in housing policy, but he did spend part of his childhood in public housing, said a close friend, Armstrong Williams."
The newspaper later issued a correction after Williams said that Carson had not lived in government housing.
"Correction: December 5, 2016 — An earlier version of this article, relying on information from Armstrong Williams, a close friend of Ben Carson, misstated a part of Mr. Carson's childhood. Mr. Williams said Monday that Mr. Carson had never lived in government housing."

In a separate story, titled “Trump Chooses Ben Carson to Lead HUD,” the paper used and then corrected the same information from Carson’s friend and adviser, Armstrong Williams.
“Correction: December 5, 2016 — Using information from a close friend of Ben Carson, the nominee for housing secretary, an earlier version of this article misstated that Mr. Carson spent part of his childhood in public housing. The friend, Armstrong Williams, said Monday that Mr. Carson had never lived in government housing.”
Carson was a frequent surrogate for Trump during the presidential campaign after he dropped his own White House bid.
Mike Huckabee tweeted about the correction late Monday.
The former Arkansas governor tweeted earlier that "Ben Carson is first HUD Sec to have actually lived in gov't housing."
He then blasted House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) after she called Ben Carson unqualified to lead the agency.
"Fancy Nancy Pelosi says he's not qualified; is she racist or just dumb?" he added.
