Spokesman: George H.W. Bush out of ICU soon

The spokesman for President George H.W. Bush said Sunday that the former president's health is improving and he should be out of the Intensive Care Unit soon.

“Doctors at Houston Methodist Hospital continue to be encouraged by President Bush's improving health. His vital signs are normal, and it is hoped that he could be moved out of the ICU in the next day or two,” Jim McGrath said in a statement.

Bush and his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, were both hospitalized last week. Barbara Bush had a case of bronchitis, while her husband was treated for respiratory issues.

McGrath said Sunday that Barbara Bush opted to remain in the hospital an extra day to stay with her husband.

“Finally for today, the Bushes are concerned about making sure they thank their well-wishers for their kindness, and especially their prayers,” McGrath added.
