A photograph posted recently on social media shows British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson with the “London professor” linked to special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian influence in the 2016 election, according to multiple reports.

The photo, taken at an event in late October, shows Johnson with the professor, Joseph Mifsud, along with businessman Prasenjit Kumar Singh. It's alleged that Mifsud was a go-between for Russia and the Trump campaign, and has since come into Mueller’s crosshairs.

The photo, which had been originally posted online by Singh, was discovered by journalist Gavin Sheridan, according to Politico.

Johnson denied meeting Mifsud, a Maltese academic named in FBI documents. Singh said he did not remember if Mifsud and Johnson spoke at the event, according to The Observer.

The photo has raised questions about possible Russian influence in the Brexit campaign. Johnson was a strong advocate for Great Britain leaving the European Union leading up to last year's vote on the issue.

Mifsud reportedly told former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos about a Russian woman who had “dirt” on Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonMueller's team asking Manafort about Roger Stone: report O'Rourke targets Cruz with several attack ads a day after debate GOP pollster says polls didn't pick up on movement in week before 2016 election MORE. Papadopoulos was under the impression that the woman was Russian President Vladimir Putin’s niece.

The woman has been identified as Olga Polonskaya, 30, from St. Petersburg. She has high-level connections to the Russian government, according to FBI documents.

Papadopoulos pleaded guilty last month to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Mifsud and Polonskaya.
