'Traitor Trump' projected on San Francisco federal building by protesters

Protesters projected the words "Traitor Trump" onto the San Francisco Federal Building earlier this week in response to President TrumpDonald John TrumpJulián Castro: It's time for House Democrats to 'do something' about Trump Warren: Congress is 'complicit' with Trump 'by failing to act' Sanders to join teachers, auto workers striking in Midwest MORE's comments at a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

CBS's San Francisco affiliate reported on Monday that activists projected "Traitor Trump," and "#LockHimUp" onto the building. The network said the group also projected cartoons of Trump and Putin.

The protests came as a direct response to Trump's actions during a joint press conference with Putin in Finland. Among other things, Trump refused to denounce Putin and Russia for interfering in the 2016 presidential election and attacked special counsel Robert MuellerRobert (Bob) Swan MuellerLewandowski says Mueller report was 'very clear' in proving 'there was no obstruction,' despite having 'never' read it Fox's Cavuto roasts Trump over criticism of network Mueller report fades from political conversation MORE's probe, calling it a "disaster" for the country.

On Tuesday, Trump attempted to walk back his widely criticized comments, saying he agreed with the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that Russia interfered in the election. But he also said that "other people" could have been involved, a statement echoing past remarks casting doubt on Russia's role.

“The sentence should have been ‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia,' " Trump said while reading from a prepared statement at the White House. "Sort of a double negative. So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.”

SF Weekly reports that Resistance SF, the group that projected the images on the San Francisco Federal Building, has carried out similar demonstrations before. In January, the group projected "Shithole President" on the federal building, and projected "Abolish [Immigration and Customs Enforcement]" in late June.
