"[Rep. Tom Price] has proven to be far out of the mainstream of what Americans want when it comes to Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and Planned Parenthood," Schumer said.

Schumer said such programs are extremely beneficial and have already helped many "seniors, families, people with disabilities and women have access to quality, affordable health care."

Price has been one of strongest critics of ObamaCare in recent years and will be in a position to repeal and replace the law during the Trump administration.

Schumer said that such a prospect "is akin to asking the fox to guard the hen house."

Trump announced his new selection on Monday, stating that Price is "exceptionally qualified" to spearhead the effort to sink Obama's healthcare law.

"Chairman Price, a renowned physician, has earned a reputation for being a tireless problem solver and the go-to expert on healthcare policy, making him the ideal choice to serve in this capacity," Trump said in a statement.

"He is exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible healthcare to every American," he added.
