“Don't believe the main stream (fake news) media. The White House is running VERY WELL. I inherited a MESS and am in the process of fixing it,” Trump tweeted.

The tweet echoed Trump’s combative press conference Thursday, where the president said his administration “is running like a fine-tuned machine,” blamed Obama for leaving him “messes” and lit into media coverage of his presidency.

Trump’s national security advisor Michael Flynn resigned Monday amid revelations he misled top White House officials about the nature of his conversations with a Russian ambassador during the transition.

The president has reportedly been turned down by more than one candidate to replace Flynn.

Trump has attacked the intelligence leaks that led to Flynn’s ouster and other damaging stories about the administration, asserting during the press conference: “The leaks are absolutely real. The news is fake.”

He also called questions about his team’s links to Russia during the presidential campaign “a ruse” and “you know, a fake news, fabricated deal.”
