President Trump invited one of his former campaign opponents, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), to fly with him on Air Force One Friday.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters that Rubio was accompanying Trump to his home state of Florida, where the president is touring a private school and then heading to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach for the weekend.

The senator is joining the president for his visit to St. Andrew’s Catholic School, according to his office. He will later fly to Palm Beach, Fla., with Trump and then continue home to Miami.

{mosads}Rubio and Trump were fierce rivals during the 2016 Republican primaries.

The Florida senator mocked Trump for having a spray tan and “small hands.”

Trump in response dubbed the senator “Little Marco.”

“I call him little Marco. Little Marco. Hello, Marco,” Trump said during a March 2016 campaign rally in Ohio.

Rubio dropped out of the race later that month after he lost to Trump in his home-state primary. He endorsed Trump after he secured the Republican nomination over the summer.

In February, Trump and first lady Melania Trump dined with Rubio and his wife at the White House.
