First daughter Ivanka Trump suggested that Planned Parenthood split off their abortion services into a separate entity, according to The New York Times.
Trump reportedly recommended to Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards that the organization split into one smaller faction providing abortion services and another for all other health services.
Officials with Planned Parenthood called the suggested “naive,” the report said.
Republicans have been trying to defund Planned Parenthood over its abortion services, though the organization does not receive federal funding toward abortions.
The Times report said Trump was the source of her father's defense of Planned Parenthood during a GOP presidential primary debate last year.
She reportedly met with Richards after the January inauguration.
“The purpose of the meeting, from Cecile’s point of view, was to make sure that Ivanka fully understood what Planned Parenthood does, how it is funded, and why it would be a terrible idea for Planned Parenthood to be removed from being able to see Medicaid patients,” a Planned Parenthood official told Politico in April.
