Kasich on healthcare: Governors need more authority

Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) on Sunday said governors need more authority over pharmaceutical and insurance companies to help drive down healthcare costs.

“What we’re not talking about are the things that needed to be done to lower the costs of medicine,” Kasich told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Kasich during the appearance said he urged Trump to grant state executives this authority in his healthcare reform measures.

“That is not in this bill,” Kasich told Tapper.

The GOP legislation that recently passed the House, known as the American Health Care Act, would repeal crucial components of ObamaCare, including its Medicaid expansion.

Kasich is one of several Republican governors who have expressed concern over the plan’s cuts to Medicare.

Kasich said the “fundamental issue” over the GOP plan is the resources.

“I’m concerned about how this is going to affect people who find themselves in a very difficult position,” he said.
