Trump's spalling gaffe came in a Thursday tweet responding to the appointment of a special counsel to investigate any ties between his campaign and Russia.
"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel appointed!" the president tweeted on Thursday.
Trump's comments come a day after the Department of Justice appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as a special counsel to investigate Russia's meddling in the U.S. presidential election.
