President Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to drive home his call for Middle East peace as he left the region after visiting Saudi Arabia and Israel.

“Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Middle East were great. Trying hard for PEACE. Doing well. Heading to Vatican & Pope, then #G7 and #NATO,” the president tweeted.

“All civilized nations must join together to protect human life and the sacred right of our citizens to live in safety and in peace,” he said in another message.

{mosads}Trump has been relatively quiet on Twitter during his nine-day foreign trip, the first of his presidency.

The messages came after he departed Israel, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in an effort to jump-start peace talks.

“Peace is possible if we put aside the pain and disagreements of the past and commit together to finally resolving this crisis, which has dragged on for nearly half a century or more,” Trump said earlier during a speech at the Israel Museum.

Of the two leaders, Trump said, “they are ready to reach for peace.”
