Trump team tries to control Twitter outbursts: report

Top White House advisers are trying to curb President Trump’s Twitter outbursts about the investigation into Russian meddling in the presidential election by encouraging him to hold early-morning phone calls with his outside legal counsel, The Washington Post reported Friday.

The line of thought, according to the Post, is that the president will have vented his frustration with the investigation and have been reassured by his legal team before stepping into work.

That plan, however, isn’t often effective. Trump still frequently takes to Twitter to bemoan the special counsel investigation into Russian meddling, including possible collusion between his campaign and Russia, which he frequently calls a “witch hunt.”

{mosads}One White House adviser interviewed by the Post simply laughed when asked if the morning calls with his outside legal team worked as a strategy to deter him from tweeting.

Trump has repeatedly denied any collusion or improper interactions with Russian officials during the 2016 election and is said to see the investigation as a “cloud” hanging over his administration.

But he has also voiced frustration with the Justice Department’s decision to appoint former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to lead the Russia probe and has assailed Mueller as “conflicted.”
