Multiple FBI staffers reportedly sported T-shirts that read “Comey is my homey” to a Family Day event on Monday, offering support for ousted FBI Director James Comey, whom President Trump fired earlier this year.
At least 12 people were seen Friday wearing matching shirts that with #ComeyIsMyHomey on them, the Huffington Post reports.
The back of the shirts featured a quote attributed to Comey: “We choose to do good for a living.”
An FBI spokesperson said the annual Family Day event can showcase divisions in the agency, as well as giving families of agency employees a chance to visit the bureau.
After his ouster, the White House said Comey had lost the confidence of the FBI rank and file.
Comey was fired amid his agency's ongoing investigation into whether Trump campaign aides colluded with the Russians during the 2016 presidential election.
During his testimony before Congress, he said Trump asked him to pledge his loyalty to him and also asked him to let go of his investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
After initially saying he fired the FBI chief at the recommendation of top Justice Department officials, the president later told NBC News that he had fired Comey because "he was not doing a good job," citing Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham ClintonOvernight Defense & National Security — Presented by Raytheon Technologies — Nation mourns Colin Powell The Memo: Powell ended up on losing side of GOP fight Powell death leads to bipartisan outpouring of grief MORE's email investigation.
