House Dems ask FBI to review Ivanka Trump’s security clearance

A group of House Democrats is calling for the FBI to review Ivanka Trump’s security clearance.

The group is sending a letter to acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe requesting the FBI “conduct a review of potentially serious issues involving” Ivanka Trump.

The letter said the first daughter applied for security clearance and was required to disclose both her own foreign contacts and those of her spouse, White House adviser Jared Kushner, and her siblings.

{mosads}”Lack of candor, particularly regarding contacts with Russian officials, has been a significant issue for the Trump administration,” the letter said.

The letter referenced the meeting held last year between Donald Trump Jr., Kushner and a Russian lawyer, among others. It said no mention of the meeting was made on Kushner’s initial security clearance questionnaire.

Kushner has had to update the list of foreign contacts on his federal disclosure form several times, the letter said.

“We are concerned that Ivanka Trump may have engaged in similar deception,” the letter said.

“For example, did she disclose her husband’s meetings with [Russian Ambassador Sergey] Kislyak and [Russian banker Sergei] Gorkov? Did she disclose her brother’s and husband’s meeting with Veselnitskaya? Did she accurately disclose her own foreign contacts in her initial filing, which reports suggest may be numerous?”

Both Kushner and Trump have played an “influential role” in President Trump’s administration, the letter said.

“Between them, the couple have been assigned expansive policy portfolios, even as they maintain a business empire that relies on foreign financing and manufacturing,” the letter said.

“The juxtaposition of their public and private roles may be murky and confused, but their obligation to disclose her families’ and her foreign contacts is not.”

The request comes amid controversy over Trump Jr.’s meeting last year with a Russian lawyer. Trump Jr. released emails last week detailing his conversations in setting up the meeting with the lawyer, who claimed to have damaging information about then-Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. President Trump has since defended his son.

It also comes as questions grow over Kushner’s security clearances, and some have called for Kushner to lose his clearance.
