Trump urges people to call senators on healthcare

President Trump is stepping up efforts to pressure Senate Republicans to pass healthcare legislation, urging the public on Saturday to call their representatives.

“You will get it, don’t worry about it, but I don’t mind getting a little hand,” Trump said about healthcare during a ceremony commissioning the newest U.S. aircraft carrier.

“So call that congressman and call that senator, and make sure you get it,” Trump said in his remarks, referring to military spending in the budget.

“And by the way, you can also call those senators to make sure you get healthcare.”

The president’s comment comes after Senate GOP efforts to repeal and replace ObamaCare collapsed last week.

Trump tweeted on Saturday that GOP senators need to “step up to the plate” to repeal and replace former President Obama’s signature law, which Trump said was “dead.”

Republicans were dealt a setback on Friday after the Senate parliamentarian indicated that major portions of the repeal-and-replace bill would require 60 votes, meaning they are unlikely to survive on the Senate floor.
