Trump's newest Russia lawyer: 'I think very highly of Mueller'

Newly appointed White House lawyer Ty Cobb is offering praise for Robert Mueller, saying he thinks “very highly" of the special counsel.

“I have a very respectful and professional relationship with Bob Mueller. I think very highly of him,” Cobb, who was recently tapped to lead the White House’s response to the investigations into ties between President Trump's campaign and Russia, told Politico.

Trump has escalated his attacks on Mueller, who was appointed to spearhead the Department of Justice's probe into Russian meddling in the presidential election.

Trump and White House surrogates have accused Mueller and his team of having conflicts of interest with Democrats and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Trump said in an interview with The New York Times last week that it was a conflict of interest for the deputy attorney general to recommend the firing of former FBI Director James Comey and then appoint Mueller, whose investigation may cover Comey's firing.

Trump warned Mueller not to investigate his family’s finances in the Times interview in July, saying it would be a “violation.”

However, Bloomberg first reported that Mueller was looking into Trump’s finances as a part of the Russia probe.
