Poll: Trump’s approval rating sinks to new low

President Trump’s approval rating is at an all-time low in a new poll amid losses in support from key demographics.
Trump’s approval rating is at 32 percent in the latest IBD/TIPP poll, down 5 points from July. Fifty-nine percent of respondents say they disapprove of the job he’s doing.
The poll’s director, Raghavan Mayur, said that the mounting Russia investigation, coupled with chaos in the White House and the failure to repeal ObamaCare, are all contributing factors to Trump’s mounting unpopularity.
“Despite Americans’ optimism regarding the economy, multiple factors are collectively offsetting the boost that the economy should be giving Trump, and driving down his approval rating,” Mayur said. “Trump’s skirmish with Attorney General [Jeff] Sessions did not go well with many conservatives, and former communications director Anthony Scaramucci’s vulgar exchange with a reporter upset many. On top of this, the daily dose of insinuations from the media regarding collusion with Russia also help to explain the low approval rating.”

A majority of Americans polled who say they follow the Russia investigation closely, 65 percent, say they believe Trump’s campaign colluded with Moscow in some form. Those numbers include 30 percent of Republicans and 64 percent of independents.
Pollsters also found that support for Trump among Republicans now stands at 71 percent, down from 83 percent last month.
Among white males, another key Trump demographic, support for Trump stands at 44 percent, down 7 points since July.
Respondents were also split on talk of impeachment. Forty-seven percent of respondents said it is acceptable to talk about impeaching Trump, while 50 percent said such discussions are premature. In June, only 32 percent said that impeachment talk was appropriate, while 65 percent called it premature.
The latest IBD/TIPP poll, which questioned 904 people, was conducted from July 28 to Aug. 5. Its margin of error is 3.3 percentage points. The survey is part of a collaboration between Investor’s Business Daily and TechnoMetrica.
