Ivana Trump: ‘I am glad Melania is there and I am here’

Ivana Trump, President Trump’s first wife, said she is glad Melania Trump is in Washington instead of her amid a tiff over who gets to call herself the first lady.
“I am glad Melania is there and I am here,” Ivana Trump says in an interview set to air Tuesday morning on “Fox & Friends.”
“Washington is [a] tough, tough town,” she said, adding that she turned down an offer to serve as an American ambassador to her native Czech Republic because the role would make her “lose” her freedom.
The new remarks come after an interview Monday during which Ivana Trump jokingly called herself the “first lady” since she was the president’s first wife, a remark that had first lady Melania Trump’s office bristling.
“I have the direct number to White House, but I no really want to call him there because Melania is there,” Ivana Trump told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday.
“I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that because I’m basically first Trump wife,” she continued.
Melania Trump’s spokeswoman slammed the remarks as “self-serving noise.”
“[Melania Trump] plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. “There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex. Unfortunately only attention seeking and self-serving noise.”
Ivana Trump, who was married to Trump between 1977 and 1992, is promoting her new memoir “Raising Trump,” which recalls her experience raising Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump with the business mogul.
Melania Trump married President Trump in 2005, his third marriage.
