President Trump on Sunday previewed “major discussions” on North Korea and trade ahead of a dinner with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

“We’re in the midst of having very major discussions on many subjects, including North Korea and trade and we’re doing very well,” Trump told reporters in front of a restaurant in Tokyo alongside Abe.

“Doing very well.”

Trump also described his relationship with the Japanese leader, with whom he played golf earlier in the day, as “really extraordinary.”

“We like each other and our countries like each other. And I don’t think we’ve ever been closer to Japan than we are right now,” he added. “It’s a great honor, it’s a great honor.

“We’ll have dinner tonight. I think we’ll insult everybody by continuing to talk about trade. But the time is a little bit limited and then tomorrow is a very busy day.”

Trump landed in Japan on Sunday to kick off the first leg of his 12-day trip to Asia.

Trump told reporters during a surprise press chat aboard Air Force One that he plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during the trip.

“We want Putin’s help on North Korea, and we’ll be meeting with a lot of different leaders,” he said.
