Trump tweets 'MAGA' at liberal columnist who criticized him

President Trump started Thursday morning by tweeting at a liberal columnist who had slammed Trump’s attacks on African Americans.

Greg Sargent, a liberal columnist for the Washington Post, tweeted a link to his latest piece, “Trump just rage-tweeted about a prominent African American again,” on Wednesday morning.

At 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Trump responded directly to Sargent’s tweet, linking to his profile and writing, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Sargent’s piece is highly critical of Trump, accusing him of peddling a message to his supporters that “the system is unfairly rigged on behalf of minorities.”

“It’s hard to avoid noticing a gratuitously ugly pattern in Trump’s responses, in which Trump vaguely suggests either that his targets are getting above their station, or that they’re asking for too much and are insufficiently thankful for all that has been done for them,” Sargent writes.

By responding directly to Sargent, Trump inadvertently shared the critical piece with his more than 43 million followers.

It appears that the president was attempting to respond to his own, previous tweet, in which he highlighted some of his presidential accomplishments, like “Military getting really strong,” and “great Supreme Court Justice.”

Trump tweeted the same message around 7:00, without linking to Sargent’s handle.

Sargent trolled him back, writing, “Happy Thanksgiving, Mr. President.”
