Trump appeared on “Fox & Friends” Thursday to tout the efforts being made to create his desired wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. During the segment, Trump suggested that the great economy is also why so many "people come across" the border.

“Don’t forget: We have a great economy,” Trump told co-host Brian Kilmeade. “Probably the best economy the country’s ever had, so people come across.”

Trump also boasted about the $1.6 billion already approved toward funding his border wall.

“We’re also fixing many miles of wall, making it brand new. We’re essentially making it brand new — big impact — we’re getting the rest as we go along.”

Trump and his aides have frequently taken credit for the booming economy, something other presidents have rarely done given unforeseeable swings in the market.

A poll released on Sunday found that most Americans believe Trump is at least somewhat responsible for the good state of the economy.

On the campaign trail ahead of the 2016 presidential election, Trump vowed to build a wall on the border with Mexico and to crack down on illegal immigration.
