The survey was conducted from June 14 to June 17, one month after Trump was hospitalized for a kidney procedure. Following her procedure, the first lady did not make public appearances for more than 25 days.

Before her procedure and time away from the public eye, Trump had announced her "Be Best" initiative to promote children’s well-being and raise awareness about the effects of cyberbullying and opioids on young people. She had also recently hosted her first state dinner for French President Emmanuel Macron.

Trump's May approval rating had been a 10-point improvement from January when 47 percent of Americans said they had a favorable opinion of the first lady.
