Trump labels Kavanaugh a ‘fantastic, fantastic man’

President Trump praised Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in a new interview as a “fantastic man” as the judge faces scrutiny over sexual misconduct allegations that imperil his nomination.

“Hopefully, we’ll have a second judge very shortly who is a fantastic, fantastic man, a fantastic talent and intellect,” Trump told Geraldo Rivera in a radio interview to be broadcast Monday.

The New York Times reported that Trump suggested in the interview that Christine Blasey Ford’s allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her during a 1980s party was questionable because she waited decades to come forward.

{mosads}Advocates of sexual assault survivors have noted that many victims wait to report the crime, or never report it at all.

Trump has repeatedly said he’d like to hear Ford to testify, telling Rivera he wants her “to have her voice.”

“Let her have her voice,” Trump said. “Let her say whatever she has to say. Let him say what he has to say and that in the end these senators will make a choice.”

Trump’s interview was taped Sunday morning, prior to the publication of a New Yorker report in which a former college classmate of Kavanaugh’s accused him of exposing himself and thrusting his genitals in her face during his freshman year.

Deborah Ramirez told the magazine that she believes the FBI should investigate the incident.

Kavanaugh has denied both of the allegations against him, and the White House stood by the judge following the newest accusations.

Ford and Kavanaugh are scheduled to testify on Thursday, but Democrats have called for the hearing to be postponed in light of the new allegations.
