"I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security. At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!" the president wrote on Twitter.

Funding for about 25 percent of the government lapsed Friday at midnight over Trump's demand that Congress provide $5 billion in funding for his border wall. Democrats have refused, but maintained offers to extend funding for border security that includes pedestrian fencing.

While both the House and Senate technically opened for brief pro forma sessions Monday, the chambers are not set to reconvene until Thursday. The vast majority of the legislators left for the Christmas holiday over the weekend.

Trump stayed behind in Washington to deal with the shutdown, even as his family left for his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The tweet was one of nearly a dozen Trump sent out Monday covering an array of topics. Earlier, he accused Democrats of opposing the wall only because he supported it and sent another tweet slamming the media as inaccurate.
