Federal prosecutors request interviews with Trump Organization execs: CNN

Federal prosecutors in New York have requested interviews with senior members of the Trump Organization, CNN reported Tuesday.

The network reported that the interview requests were made in recent weeks and it was unclear what topics prosecutors may have been interested in covering.

The Trump Organization didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill on Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

Manhattan-based prosecutors have been probing potential campaign finance violations related to the Trump Organization attempting to reimburse the president's former lawyer Michael Cohen for payments he made during the 2016 election to buy the silence of two women who have claimed to have had affairs with Trump.

Cohen pleaded guilty to campaign finance charges in August and is set to begin serving his sentence in March.

Allen Weisselberg, the chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, has reportedly been granted immunity by federal prosecutors to discuss the Cohen case.

Federal prosecutors in New York are also reportedly probing Trump's presidential inauguration committee. Prosecutors asked the committee for documents about its donors, finances and activities on Monday, according to multiple reports.

Prosecutors reportedly are interested in whether any foreign actors donated to the organization, and whether staffers on the committee were aware that such donations were illegal.

A spokesperson for the inaugural committee told the Times that it was examining the subpoena and that it intended to cooperate with the probe.

CNN also reports that prosecutors have interviewed at least two other former Trump campaign officials. The network reported that one of the officials was questioned last year about coordination between the campaign and the Trump Organization.
