"Your bizarre tweets and recent temper tantrums reveal your panic over the likelihood the Special Counsel will soon further complicate your life, putting your political & financial future in jeopardy," Brennan tweeted, referring to special counsel Robert MuellerRobert (Bob) Swan MuellerSasse: US should applaud choice of Mueller to lead Russia probe MORE's investigation.

"Fortunately, Lady Justice does not do NDAs," he added, an apparent reference to the Trump campaign's reported use of nondisclosure agreements for its employees.

Brennan's comments come after Trump has repeatedly taken to Twitter to voice outrage with his critics. Trump on Sunday lashed out at the late Sen. Conway said in a tweet Wednesday that Trump's criticism of him seemed to prove his point that the president has narcissistic personality disorder.

"You. Are. Nuts." he said in a separate tweet.

Brennan has repeatedly criticized Trump and the GOP over the past two years. He said in December that he hoped the "forthcoming exposure of [Trump's] malfeasance and corruption will convince enough Republicans to abandon" him.

Trump, meanwhile, has derided the Mueller probe as a "witch hunt."
