President Trump said Tuesday that he came up with his 2016 campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” by himself and jabbed former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, claiming she paid for her slogan. 

Trump made the comments at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s annual spring dinner while discussing what his 2020 campaign slogan should be.

“Do I go with ‘Make America Great Again,’ or do I go with ‘Keep America Great’ because I made it great in theory?” Trump asked the crowd. “How do you give that up for a new one? KAG? ‘Keep America Great?'”

{mosads}Trump then criticized former rival Clinton’s slogan of “‘Stay Together’ or some crap like that,” claiming she paid millions for the slogan after changing it over backlash.

Clinton’s 2016 slogan was changed to “Stronger Together” after initially being “I’m with her.”

Trump then added that his slogan was “was made up by me.”

Trump’s now iconic “Make America Great Again,” or MAGA, slogan was inspired by former President Reagan’s “Let’s Make America Great,” which Trump acknowledged earlier in his speech.

“We ran on a theme: ‘Make America Great Again.’ And a lot of people are saying that may have been the greatest theme ever in politics. Ronald Reagan had a small thing called ‘Let’s Make America Great.’ That was good,” Trump said earlier in the evening. “I don’t like it as much. And he sure as hell didn’t use it as much.”

“We’ve sold millions and millions of hats. Now you go to a rally everybody has a red hat.”

Trump formally announced “Keep America Great” as his 2020 slogan in May of last year.
