Politico reported Friday that Kiron Skinner, director of the agency's Policy Planning Staff, was informed Thursday that she would be removed from her position.

Three officials confirmed to the news outlet that the reason for Skinner's firing was an "abusive" management style.

A senior State Department official told Politico that the firing occurred after several staffers threatened to resign if Skinner was not removed. Another official said that Skinner has used unprofessional language in the workplace and had retaliated against employees who she thought were her enemies.

No other details regarding the allegations or the victims involved were immediately available.

The State Department did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill on Skinner's firing or the allegations.

Skinner drew criticism earlier this year for an interview she gave at a conference in Washington, where she said that America's trade conflict and foreign policy issues with China were striking because "it’s the first time that we will have a great power competitor that is not Caucasian.”
