Bachmann demands NBC apology for ‘Late Night’ song choice
Michele Bachmann demanded that NBC apologize for a song played as she walked onstage on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” asserting that if the song had been played for first lady Michelle Obama, the network would have apologized directly.
Fallon has already apologized personally to Bachmann on Twitter for the song “Lyin’ Ass B—-,” which his show’s band, The Roots, played Monday at the start of Bachmann’s appearance.
{mosads}“This is an outrage,” Bachmann said.
The Minnesota congresswoman and presidential candidate said she loves Fallon and accepted his apology, but that it was an insufficient response by a network that should have fired or suspended the band’s drummer, who tweeted jestingly about the song choice but has also apologized.
A spokeswoman for NBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the network would apologize.
“The point is, if that had been Michelle Obama who had come out on the stage and that song had been played to Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her,” Bachmann said. “This is clearly a form of bias on the side of the entertainment elite.”
The song choice has been roundly condemned by both Republicans and Democrats. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) said she disagrees with Bachmann politically but that no woman should have to face such disrespect.
