Former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie will run for governor of Virginia in 2017.

“I will be a governor for all Virginians and I will take our campaign to all Virginians. Join us at EdForVirginia.com,” he wrote on Twitter Monday.

Gillespie served as counselor to the president during the last two years of former President George W. Bush’s tenure.

Several Republicans are running for the party’s nomination, including State Sen. Frank Wagner.

Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is running for the Democratic party’s nomination.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-Va.) is not eligible for reelection due to state term limits.
