Chaffetz ‘curious’ about Trump hotel’s deal with government
Hours before his White House meeting with President Trump, House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said Tuesday he’s “curious” about the president’s new hotel, which occupies a historic, government-owned building.
Trump’s contract with the federal General Services Administration bans elected officials from being a party to the lease or benefitting from it. And Trump’s critics have called on Chaffetz to investigate whether the arrangement constitutes a conflict of interest.
{mosads}Chaffetz said he recently received a copy of the Trump Organization’s unredacted 500-plus-page agreement from the GSA.
“His being both the landlord and the tenant is something that we’re curious what the GSA’s opinion of that is,” Chaffetz told reporters as he left a House Republican Conference meeting.
The Oversight chairman is set to meet with Trump at 1:30 p.m. Chaffetz said Trump called the meeting but that he expected they would discuss the GOP’s “reform agenda.”
