Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.), the House majority whip, is defending the new GOP healthcare plan and urging his whip team colleagues to unite and vote for the legislation, according to an email obtained by Politico.

In his letter to his colleagues, Scalise says that while the GOP plan is not perfect, its “bold approach achieves our objectives.”

Scalise also said that the new plan must pass to “rescue” Americans from ObamaCare.

{mosads}“As a member of the Whip team, I ask that you embrace these reforms and take on a  leadership role,” he wrote.

Conservative lawmakers, many of whom are arguing for a clean repeal of the original healthcare law, have criticized the new plan, which was unveiled earlier this month by House Republicans.

Scalise in his letter argued the Republican plan, which would dismantle ObamaCare’s Medicare expansion program, amounts to the biggest reform of the Medicaid program in 52 years.

“We did not seek simple solutions, but instead the right solutions. We benefit from a detailed discussion on the substance,” Scalise added.
