CIA Director Mike Pompeo is expected to brief House Intelligence Committee members on Tuesday night, in the wake of reports that President TrumpDonald John TrumpBiden says his faith is 'bedrock foundation of my life' after Trump claim Coronavirus talks on life support as parties dig in, pass blame Ohio governor tests negative in second coronavirus test MORE disclosed highly classified information to top Russian officials.

Pompeo will likely address the Monday Washington Post report that said Trump disclosed highly classified intelligence about the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in a meeting with Russian diplomats last week.

A source familiar with the schedule confirmed Pompeo's appearance, adding that that meeting was already on the books before Monday's news broke.

The report will likely change the direction of the conversation with the director, however, and could lead to intense questioning from members.

As president, Trump can declassify information at his discretion. But the Post report said the source of the intelligence he shared, a U.S. partner, did not grant Trump permission to disclose the intel to the Russians. And as a result, the president's disclosure could pose the risk of burning a source with rare insights and access into the inner workings of the terrorist organization.

Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that he wanted to share facts pertaining to terrorism, adding that he wanted Russia to ramp up its efforts against ISIS.

In response to the report, Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.) said Monday he would "raise issue[s] surrounding disclosure" of classified information at the House Intelligence panel meeting this week.

Pompeo’s visit comes one week after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey; many have questioned the timing of the dismissal in the midst of an ongoing FBI investigation into ties between Trump campaign aides and Russia.
