In remarks that drew applause from lawmakers in the chamber, Ryan and Pelosi expressed support for House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was shot by an alleged gunman, and praised the Capitol Police officers on the scene.

"An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us," Ryan said.


Lawmakers plan to go ahead Thursday night with the annual Congressional Baseball Game, a charity event held at Nationals Park.

"We will use this occasion as one that brings us together," Pelosi said.
